IT Database Engineer
Job Description
Design, develop, install, and support all databases (70% Microsoft SQL and 30% Oracle) to support Business Unit and Application Development, both in clustered and stand-alone environments leveraging virtual infrastructureBuild and support AWS RDS using Terraform in compliance to AWS Well-Architected Framework.Execute recurring and timely SQL server maintenance to ensure consistent and reliable database environmentMonitor and fine tune databases and performance issues as required, this includes proactive monitoring of application SQL to recommend improvements and query optimizationImplement and manage high availability solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, mirroring, or other technologiesResponsible for identifying and implementing improvements to databases to optimize performanceMaintain backup/recovery processes and maintenance to ensure recovery timelines are met and assist development in lower environmental restoresMonitor and troubleshoot issues with all SQL Server stack products (i.e. SQL Server, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, etc.)Fluent understanding of database instance maintenance tasks (i.e. DB Integrity Checks, Index Maintenance, etc.) and how to resolveAdvise developers on the most efficient database design (tables, data types, stored procedures, etc.)Using profiler trace and other tools to find most frequently ran queries and help resolve issues with those queriesAutomate and support deployments to different environmentsDevelop and maintain logical and physical database modelsInstall and configure new SQL Server Database Instance to specified guidelines or 3rd party application requirementsBuild and maintain documentation related to the company’s database environmentReview and test database changes, including patches, prior to production deployment in accordance with Change Management practicesInvestigate and resolve problems related to SQL Server and/or client issues.Configure and manage Linked Servers, data transfer between SQL Server and other heterogeneous relational databasesManage, provision database access and secure data using ABAC, RBAC mechanism to comply HIPAA regulations and align with client’s Business Associate Agreement.Own problems and see to resolution, including when outside support is needed from other teams or outside vendorsMaintain the integrity and security of databases, including administration of database access roles and least privilege and performing database auditing tasksMaintain and implement secure databases environments and backups using appropriate encryption at rest and in transitEnsure HIPAA and HITECH compliance of the database environment and participate in third party audits
Qualification
Must Haves:
• Have at least 2 years of database management
• Strong knowledge of SQL for managing and querying databases.
• Knowledge of backup strategies, data recovery techniques, and disaster recovery plans.
• Ability to optimize database performance, troubleshoot performance issues, and manage indexing and query optimization.
• Familiarity with database security practices, user management, encryption, and access control.
• Understanding of database replication, clustering, and high-availability solutions.
• Skills in designing and managing database schema, relationships, and structures to optimize performance and maintainability.
Good to have:
• Experience with Large-Scale databases.
• Handles projects related to Data Warehousing
